Pandora's Box- Julian Perry

Although some argue that it should be called "Pandora's Jar" (as the tale was originally described), Pandora's Box is a fairly ubiquitous story. Prometheus, a titan from Greek mythology, always wanted the best for us humans. He would occasionally disobey the god Zeus's commands in order to gift us the power of fire. Zeus created the first woman, Pandora, as a "gift" to humans, and a bride to Prometheus's brother. Along with Pandora came another gift, a box with instructions to never open it. Knowing human curiosity would get the best of her (and it did), Zeus had filled the box with every evil we now know, and with that came our human capacity for hope. A gift and a curse.

If I had the power to destroy any evil in the world, it would likely be (as cliché as it is for the hippie vegan kid to say) animal cruelty. Sure, I could go for human suffering but human suffering is a much more pressing priority for the vast majority of the world. Animal cruelty will go on for centuries before humans get to that issue. Furthermore, the extent to which animals suffer is far greater than that of most humans at this point in the 21st century, and animals are far less capable of changing their own circumstances. There is no greater indecency in my mind than the disrespect of another living being's worth in this, our own very own alone and isolated world in the universe.
