Pandora's Box- Garrett Uebelhor

Although the story of Pandora varies, most stories agree that Zeus, or Jupiter, sent Pandora down to Epimetheus on earth. Pandora was the first women and was crafted with each god giving her a different gift/characteristic.  When Pandora reached earth she released all the evils, which had previously been contained, out into the world. After all the evils had escaped all that was left was hope. This hope showing that even when all seems lost we are never completely doomed.

If I was capable of "squelching" any evil it would probably be envy or jealously. I believe that because we so often look at others and see things we want we end up being unsatisfied with what we have. If we could live in a world where we were not all constantly desiring more and never being completely "want free" our society would be better for it. It seems that we only find value in what others want and can never be happy with what we have. To me less envy would help us all to be more confident in ourselves and as a result would help us to squash other evils as well. If we were confident in our own capabilities I think there would be less belittling and bulling as well as cruelty towards others. A lot of these things seem to derive from our need to feel better or more adequate and if we no longer felt so much pressure to constantly "keep up with the Joneses" I think we would quit putting others down.
