Odysseus and the Trojan Horse-Will Atkins

In the Trojan War, the Greeks were beginning to lose battles and lose a lot of men. The Greek leaders wanted to end the war and cut their losses. Instead, a great warrior by the name of Odysseus came to them asking for their faith as well as the Gods as he hatched a plan. His plan was to build a large wooden horse, with enough room to fit a squadron of men. He said to leave a door that could be opened on the belly though. The leaders of the Greek command agreed to his terms, and built the horse. They had Odysseus and his men enter the horse. Then a soldier pretended to be a traitor, delivering the horse and telling the Trojans that the Greeks were surrendering and the horse built to look the same as a Trojan horse, as a peace offering. The Trojans allowed the statue into their gated base. The Trojans proceeded to celebrate by getting very drunk. In the middle of that night, Odysseus and his men sneaked out of the horse and slaughtered all of the men and enslaved the women and the children.

My dream journey would not be one of war. Instead one of mental and physical toughness. Going against myself. My dream journey would be a marathon. As of right now, I run between 4-9 miles everyday and I sprint a 5k (3+ miles) every weekend. But that's not enough of a challenge. That's why my dream challenge would be running a marathon, preferably if a lot of it was uphill. To make it even harder, and to make it my dream journey.

  1. The best part of the summary is, "The Trojans proceeded to celebrate by getting very drunk." You have a very unique perspective changing from war to a journey of mental and physical toughness. This comparison to the Trojan Horse sets yourself apart as an upstanding individual.
